SERVICES
We are a very
versatile company and perform a wide range of services. We can adapt our
personnel and equipment to perform the task at hand. We take pride in the
fact that we have never backed out of a job and have always completed every
job we took on. We carry all necessary insurance and our safety record is
impeccable.
- Towing ~ With
various vessels ranging in size from 300 to 2200 horsepower, we have the
capability to tow your vessel anywhere on the Great Lakes. We perform
many barge movements, transporting cargo either on one of our barges or
yours. Some examples of cargo we’ve hauled are 150 ton paper dryers,
once in 1968 and again in 1985; 100 ton kilns from Detroit, MI to South
Chicago; 700 tons of various construction equipment from Detroit MI to
Rochester NY; (2) 30’ diameter pipe spools from Manitowoc, WI to
Montreal, Quebec in 2008. In the fall of 1980, we towed 6 dead ships
from Duluth, MN to Quebec City for scrapping, stopping in Milwaukee, WI
with 2 of them to be loaded with scrap. In December 1982, we towed the
dead ship C.L. Austin from Duluth to Buffalo, NY. We performed this job
when other companies would not take it on due to the winter conditions.
We even moved a 3-story house on our barge from Port Huron, MI to
Lexington, MI.
- Salvage Work ~ We
have all the equipment and expertise to perform salvage work, including
retrieval of sunken vessels or cargo. We have various tugs; barges;
lifting equipment, including a 100 ton A-frame; air bags; pumps;
generators; and divers. We are quick to assess the situation and come
up with the best course of action. Our salvage work is performed on a
“no cure, no pay” basis.
- Diving
Inspections ~ We can perform diving inspections on your vessel at a
moments notice.
- Icebreaking ~ Our
tug MANITOU is an ex-Coast Guard icebreaker and with her
ice-strengthened hull, we have the capability of breaking ice up to 2
feet thick, at a continuous speed. Our captains and crew have over 35
years experience breaking ice for ships anywhere on the Great Lakes. We
also provide icebreaking services to facilitate barge movements of cargo
on the Great Lakes.
- Buoy Work ~ With
the 5-ton boom on board our tug MANITOU and a fleet of crane/deck barges
we can easily perform buoy work on the Great Lakes. We
consistently have performed buoy installation and removal at Tawas, MI
for many
years, placing the buoys on station in the Spring and removing them in
the Fall. We also perform maintenance on these buoys, including
painting and chain and anchor replacement. One year we were contracted
to fabricate new buoys as well as install those buoys. We fabricated 8
new buoys, to specs., in our St. Clair shop over the winter, and
installed them in the Spring.
- Dredging ~ We
perform mechanical dredging, both public and private. We have done
dredging in the Black River, Clinton River, St. Clair River, and various
municipalities along Lake St. Clair. We have performed dredging for
both the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as well
as numerous local municipalities. We can perform dredging jobs small and
large, up to a depth of 20’. We will take care of all dredging and
disposal of the dredged spoils. Spoils can be hauled out by barge so as
to avoid all mess left behind by trucking.
- Seawalls ~ We
have installed seawalls from one end of the St. Clair River to the
other. We have the capability to perform both residential and
commercial work. We will perform the work to the highest of standards,
our residential walls are no less than 5 gauge steel, we always use the
appropriate length of sheeting for the job, and utilize no less than 1”
diameter tieback rods, and steel sheet piling for deadmen. Don’t settle
for less than the best when it comes to your residential walls. Do it
right the first time and it will last. We also will install your
commercial wall, per your specs. or we will design the right one for
your situation.
- Docks ~ We have
also installed residential docks all along the St. Clair River. We can
install docks as per your specs. or we will help you design one. We
also will perform marina dock work, including removal of docks;
installation of new docks and maintenance work on existing docks.
- Piling ~ We can
drive piling, both in the water and also foundation piling. We
performed the installation of piling for a bank foundation in Port
Huron. These piling were driven to bedrock at a refusal depth of 103’.
We recently completed the installation of (78) 30’ long foundation
piling for a new home being built along the St. Clair River.
- Marine
Construction ~ Some other examples of marine construction we have
completed are fabrication and installation of lighthouses and range
lights; installation of water main crossings; gabion baskets; dock
fendering systems; and demolition work – just to name a few.
